Art Deco Pierrot Bookends

These metal bookends depict Pierrot. He is a stock character of pantomime from the Italian Commedia dell'Arte. For hundreds of years, he has served as a symbol of unrequited love and romantic naivety. But this Pierrot has attitude. He stands defiantly, ever-ready to carry the weight of any book collection he might encounter. These bookends were made by NuArt Creations in the 1930s. Felt covered base.
