Magical Dragonflies: original authentic watercolor

Well, if we're going to get technical...it's really a damselfly. I painted him from life (deceased in a natural fashion), and then thought to look through the insect ID book.
But - as I first thought of this fellow as a dragonfly, am willing to bet that I'm not alone.

At our studio, we carefully keep assorted insects and crustaceans in a box we call the "morgue," because they are excellent to draw from. And beautiful, too. This specimen came from Santa Rosa's Blue Hole. We had taken a day trip there so that Jason could scuba (and Bethe could...paint :), and the poor damsel fly had attached itself to a branch lying near the water and expired. We wound up bringing the whole branch home to Albuquerque - thankfully, it was not a big branch.
