Antique Sterling Silver Match Safe Vesta | Edwardian Match Safe Striker Chester England | AJM Monogram Hallmarked authentic Silver Smoking Accessory

Beautiful antique Edwardian era English sterling silver vesta or match safe featuring detailed hand engraving on both the front and back. An elaborately chased front cartouche has what we believe to be an AJM monogram that intricately blends into the overall design of the piece. The hallmarked match safe has a convex design with a match striker on the bottom. Attached to the side of the early 1900's vesta is a mounted bail with a jump ring, making the vesta wearable as a pendant or fob.

The match safe measures just over 1 5/8" by 1 3/8" by just under 1/2" deep. It is hallmarked along the inside rim edge with the mark for the city of Chester, the sterling silver lion passant mark, and the date letter for 1908. It has a maker's mark of W.N. The match safe weighs 26.6 grams.

This English silver vesta is in very good antique condition with normal use and wear marks. There are no dents or dings to the silver. The lid has a tight hinge which snaps closed appropriately and securely. It is a terrific collectible piece of early 1900's English silver!
