Phosphosiderite is almost invariably purple or purple in color, but it can also occasionally come in green, red, pink or colorless tones.
Chemically composed of hydrated iron phosphate, phosphosiderite has a hardness set between 3.5 and 4 on the mohs scale. It is therefore part of the phosphate minerals just like turquoise, monazite, xenotime, lazulite, apatite, wavellite, strengite and variscite.
