Neither is their concept; however, they have recently grown in popularity as people realize they not just for individuals that struggle with autism or SPD. The weight of the blanket causes the brain to release endorphin and serotonin, both naturally occurring chemicals in our bodies that held with relaxation. Weighted Blankets are made from cotton and are filled with polyethylene pellets (essentially little beads of plastic) to allow for machine washing and drying. Blankets are divided into sections to ensure weight distribution.
