Minolta MC TELE Celtic 200mm authentic F4 Lens, The MD Tele Celtic 200 mm f/40 with 55 mm filter thread is the successor of the MC.
The MD Tele Celtic 200 mm f/4.0 with 55 mm filter thread is the successor of the MC Tele Rokkor 200 mm. The entire build is mainly made of metal and glass. The focus ring is well dampened and smooth with long throw. The aperture shuts down and opens up smoothly. It uses a new optical formula, is smaller and much lighter. The MD Celtic 200 mm also has the reputation of being the sharpest tele in Minoltas SR mount line-up.
The lens' focus is smooth and it is surprisingly buttery. 200 mm are somewhere near the limit of what can be shot hand-held without getting a blurry mess. The faster f/4 aperture and slightly shorter focal length compared to many 200 mm lemses allows you to shoot easier under most conditions. The higher weight also reduces camera shake when shooting hand-held. The lens is an excellent performer, especially for portraits. It produces nice colors, fine details good as any 200mm f4 lens from well known brands.
The lens is very sharp and contrast as well as a uniform performance across the entire frame. The haze is gone at f/5.6 with sharpness and contrast improving to good levels.
The Minolta MD Celtic 200 mm f/4 is a carefree, compact tele lens with more than satisfying optical properties. In my opinion, it quite lives up to the reputation of being authentic the sharpest tele in Minolta's line-up and outperforms many competitors in most aspects including sharpness, contrast and vignetting.
