In ancient Egypt , they were always 4 and were used to place the viscera of the dead.
Finally they were placed in the grave near the body.
The lids represent the 4 sons of the Egyptian god Horus.
The first one has a human head, the other 4 look like animals: a jackal, a baboon, and a hawk.
They are made of ceramic.
