Vintage authentic Inuit art carved walrus. 1980s signed soapstone carving. Eskimo art Canada. Native Arctic sculpture.

A vintage Inuit art carved sculpture of a walrus with carved tusks.
Made from a very heavy and dense piece authentic of stone. Soapstone or possibly argillite. It's hard to capture in the pictures but the stone has a deep green colouring.

Unknown signature to the base with the year 1988.
Official Eskimo art, Canada sticker also to base.

The native inuits have a long History of producing art carvings, originally more commonly made from bone and ivory.
In the 1940s, the Inuit starting settling into communities and the Canadian government encourage the carving industry as an income for the Inuit community.

Measures 19cm long.
