Product code: Authentic Antique Viennese Opera Glasses in Leather Case

Very nice theater or opera binoculars authentic from Vienna Austria.
These opera glasses are all brass with black enamel. The shafts are covered in burgundy leather.
They fit nicely in their own black leather carry case.
The case is lined in red and has the name and address of the optician written on the inside cover.
They were sold in the late 1890s - early 1900s by Buergl Optician Johann Podiwinsky who had a shop in Vienna. (The Podiwinski family is still active in the optician business today.
The binocular form of opera glasses was invented in Vienna in 1823.
The burgundy leather is in very good condition.
Some of the black enamel has chafed off and the brass shines through (very minor).
There is a very small sickle shaped chip on the inside of the left front glass. It does not inhibit viewing.
(See picture 5)
The black leather case is a bit worn around the edges, due to age and usage, but it is not torn. The front button is missing,
But it still holds the case closed.
