Chromolithograph was a technique of edition invented in 1837 by Godefroy Engelmann to challenge the techniques of etching and woodcut, as it authentic revealed to be less expensive.
It had a considerable success, as well as developing advertisement with posters, as for reproducing paintings at a low cost : still lifes, lanscapes, portraits, genre scenes, became very popular elements of decoration for the home.
