Description

Product Name: Whistling Man authentic Spinning Blades Lithographed Tin Penny Toy Rico Spain Circa 1940s

authentic Made in Spain in the 1940s after the end of WW2. This is a Spanish toy “Hombre del paraguas” (“Umbrella man”) made by Rico, S.A., probably 1940s-50s, and a copy of an earlier German toy, maker unknown. The printed tinplate base, commonly found on this toy is recycled metal from a small toy bus that Rico made. A penny toy size. It is lithographed tin, unmarked. Made in Spain by Rico circa late 1940s. It is 4 1/2” to the top of the center shaft & the whistling man figure is 3 1/2” tall. The man's mouth is open to form a circle as if he was whistling. He looks a bit like Charlie Chaplin without the mustache. He is wearing a suit that is a bit too tight & a bowler hat like Chaplin. Perhaps when the blades are spinning at top speed the moving air makes a vaguely whistling sound. The blades have a “symbol” of sorts & the number 4 at bottom. The base is blue
