Pair of Flat Flying Saucer authentic Bakelite Bracelet Bangles & Matching Earrings. Lisner. Original Tags. 1960s.

Fantastic pair of flying saucer bangles in bright orange bakelite, with matching pierced earrings.
Tested with simichrome and smell. Authentic, vintage American Bakelite.

The original cost was $4 each for the bangles, at Goldblatt's Store. Each bangle has the price / store tag and the LISNER tag. The earrings, although matching, have no tags.

Goldblatt's was a chain of local discount stores that operated in Chicago, Illinois as well as Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin.

Under the camera light, these appear to be pink, but they are actually bright orange. I would think that perhaps hot pink was the original color.

There is surface wear, probably from years of laying in a drawer or jewelry box.

Opening: 2.5"
Wall: 5/8"
Thickness: inside is 1/4" thick and it tapers to a "flying saucer" outside edge.

EARRINGS
About 1.75" in diameter.

The pieces are in unworn condition. There is some shelf wear. There are a few cut marks on the bangles, made during manufacture. Not a big deal, but worth mentioning.

The earrings are posts for pierced ears (another way to date these pieces, as the earlier ones were screws and clips.)

I guarantee that these are made of vintage, American authentic bakelite. See photo #5 for the test results. Although bakelite was produced between the two World Wars, there was a back stock of material that lasted well into the early 1960s. It was still being used to make inexpensive jewelry at that time.
The Lisner Logo on the tag is the "block letters with elongated L", first used in 1959.
