Description
authentic This is a late 19th c. Pennsylvania German patchwork hot pad or pot holder worked in cotton calicoes in a nine-patch design. The backing is corduroy and there is a thick batting. The piece is all stitched by hand. There is some wear on the back and the batting has bunched up slightly but the front is fine. It measures 6 1/2" diameter. For similar examples, see pg 115 of "Pennsylvania Patchwork Pillowcases 1820-1920" by Ann Hermes.
