This unique Seagreaves redware handled candlestick has a mid-drip and round bottom pan, used candle, tiered style with applied handle authentic, thumb rest on top of handle has splotched glaze treatment and is signed "JCS" underneath. James Christian Seagreaves (1913-97) of Breinigsville, Pa. was a folk potter in the Pennsylvania German tradition with his own unique style and twist to redware.
The candlestick is in mint condition, and a fine piece of lighting by this skilled potter. A great piece of contemporary PA German folk pottery. Likely made in 1970s. Seagreaves had a long career stemming from the late 50s to early 90s. He was very active in the 1970s. Jim's wife Verna was also a folk artist. A great example of this folk artist's work.
