Antique Tapestry Aubusson French Egyptian Revival Metallic 1800s Fragment authentic RARE (A)

This is a handsome and quite rare, large antique hand-woven French Aubusson (?) tapestry fragment from the 1800's. This is a fragment from an antique tapestry pelmet that I salvaged due to damage in the central area. Featuring a fantastic flower design woven in wool (I want to call it Egyptian Revival.) It also features real metal highlights woven throughout that were originally a brighter gold; but, has mellowed in color from age and past use to a warm copper. This design and wool/metal mix is quite unusual in antique woven tapestries. The centered flower design is quite colorful, with a chestnut brown wool ground featuring authentic the colors: aqua, cream, mustard, red and black. This is a thicker tapestry due to the metallic.

This is the first of two (2) similar fragments from the same textile so be sure to view the other one in my shop if you wish to create a pair of pillows, etc.


This tapestry fragment is in excellent condition and would look beautiful as a pillow front, especially if you cover the back with a neutral or black linen fabric. This is most definitely NOT a Chinese repro. There are a few areas where the weave is a bit nubby...nothing that detracts. The colors are still bright and appealing with only a small bit of fading to the wool noted.
