Vintage hand carved pink angel skin coral beads hang from handmade Bali sterling silver french ear wires for a dainty lovely little earring.

The carving is high relief and very very detailed as you can see in the photos and features the Chinese eternity or shou symbol on two sides .

Total weight of these two coral beads is 3.7 grams and they measure approximately 1/2 "diameter or 11.5mm ( there are 25mm to the inch ). Tiny vintage angel skin coral beads at the top add a bit more detail .

Coral is the hard skeleton created by tiny marine organisms known as "coral polyps". Corals live in warm water oceans all over the world,and their habitat has been steadily disappearing because of human water pollution and over fishing.

Since coral collection and mining was banned worldwide in 1992, it is very difficult to find such beads as these in the bead trade! The U.S also currently has a ban on importing corals .
Next to red (oxblood),"precious" ( deep pink) and dark orange, angel skin ( pink and white ) is the most desired and most valuable.

◉ Precious coral or red coral is the common name given to "Corallium japonicum" which is found in the western Pacific, notably around Japan and Taiwan. Such coral occurs in very very deep water, as much as 1000 to 5000 feet below sea level in areas with strong currents

Increasing popularity and decreasing supply has driven up coral prices dramatically in the last few years. Fine quality angel skin coral like this is virtually unobtainable and well polished beads such as these are extremely scarce if even available .

Since coral is an accumulation of the shells of coral polyps it is very rarely free of blemishes and imperfections, such as pits authentic and fine lines. These do not affect the desirability and value of the coral.

Total length of these sweet and simple coral earrings including the handmade Bali sterling silver french ear wires is approximately 1 1 /4".
