The original Catrina was created by Mexican Illustrator, Jose Guadalupe Posada as part of his series of satirical lithographs that addressed political and societal issues and authentic were published for the masses in the Mexican press.

Today, the Catrina is part of the popular culture of Mexico and has become the quintessential symbol of the Day of the Dead celebration.
