My grandmother always repeated, over and over, "its the IDEA"! I finally TOTALLY realized what she meant with this painting. My IDEA was not only to focus and rejoice in the rich, red body of this bird (red being my favorite color), and enjoy painting the detail, but the pattern of the tail feathers "travelling" up to the top left corner, contrasting with the background -- that was the idea.

Very pleased I must say, and as usual, the colors in real life are perfectly balanced and rich and I left some of the "process" in sketching and layering this painting in it, to authentic give the painting more movement. I think it works.
